Managing Categories in Moodle
Categories in Moodle are used to organize courses. By grouping courses into categories, you can make it easier for users to find relevant courses and improve overall navigation.
Creating a New Category
- Navigate to Site Administration > Courses > Manage Courses and Categories.
- Click Add a new category.
- Fill in the necessary details for the new category:
- Category Name (e.g., Mathematics, Science)
- Category Parent (Choose an existing parent category or leave it as 'Top' for a top-level category)
- Category Description (Optional - a short description for the category)
- Click Save changes to create the category.
Editing a Category
- Navigate to Site Administration > Courses > Manage Courses and Categories.
- Locate the category you want to edit.
- Click the Edit icon next to the category.
- Modify the necessary details, such as:
- Category Name
- Parent Category
- Category Description
- Click Save Changes when done.
Deleting a Category
- Navigate to Site Administration > Courses > Manage Courses and Categories.
- Locate the category you want to delete.
- Click the Delete icon next to the category (Note: You must remove any courses in the category before deleting it).
- Confirm the deletion (this action is irreversible).
Moving Courses Between Categories
- Navigate to Site Administration > Courses > Manage Courses and Categories.
- Locate the course you want to move.
- Click the Edit icon next to the course and select Move.
- Choose the new category to move the course into.
- Click Save Changes to finalize the move.
